Conan: Book of Thoth 4
Kelly Jones’ stint in the realm of Robert E Howard has come to an end. It is a sad time for those of us who love his dark, morphing style and who yearn for more histories and greater knowledge of one of Nerdoms greatest ages. Kurt Busiek is also leaving, and this may be the saddest news of all. But let’s look back and see what all they have brought us:
Kelly Jones will be missed, not that I would trade his art for that of Cary Nord when it comes to drawing the derring-do of the Cimmerian himself, but has only worked on this four mega-part mini series. Kurt Busiek has brought us twenty-some issues of Conan’s regular series and finally this masterpiece, Conan The Book of Thoth.
I have rarely enjoyed a comic as much as I have Busiek’s Conan, and as he departs, I rend my clothes, and whilst donning sackcloth and ashes, pluck my beared, and mouth about in a stammering sort of manner. (I know this won’t get him back, but it just feels so right, and I don’t yet have enough Faith points to set myself ablaze in protest like some sort of monk.)
