I tell you, I just can’t get enough of this series. It is such a surprise to me, because I was never a Conan fan that this comic would one day become my favorite running comic. But there it is. Kurt Busiek continues to weave these fantastic stories with such superb and traditional narration. Meanwhile, Carey Nord’s artwork gets better with every issue, and it was already some of the best and most unique art out there. The shear number of unique thieves, scumbags, and working gals is astounding.

Conan, who considers himself as having been bested by civilization once, has decided in his obscure brain that he wants a rematch. So he travels to The City of Thieves (which is also the name of the story arch) in an attempt to become a master thief and therefore prove that he can beat civilization. Does that make sense to anyone? Maybe not, but it makes perfect sense that Conan would think that up.

It is strange to read Conan, because in all actuality, I don’t really like him. I love to read about hi, but the man himself is just not likeable. He is cruel, and though he is honor bound in a strange way, he is also a ruthless thief, murderer, and rapist among other things. So in a way, I guess I respect the character, even if I don’t like him. But you have to admit, he is just not a good guy.
