Metal Gear Solid #4 |
|
SO MUCH FUN!!! Metal Gear Solid, a new comic book joint venture between Konami and IDW, is excellent in so many ways. The art by Ashley Wood is a stirring surreal blur of charcoals, blues, reds, that gives the book a dream-like, yet dangerous feel. I wish I had each frame hanging along the walls of a long hallway so I could walk along following Snake as I did on the PSOne so long ago. The story is just the story, with a few amendments and advancements. These books follow the game step by step leaving out and adding in a few bits along the way. If you played the game you will note how much faster you can read through each stage or act of the story than you could play it the first go-round. But that is because the Snake we see here is the professional that our hands were unable to achieve when first we tried to take down Foxhound and the Genome troops. Issue four finds Meryl and Snake teaming up despite Snake’s fear of her getting in his way, or worse getting killed. Also Snake encounters the voice of an outsider whose intentions are unknown, and whose name, Deepthroat, dates back to the Watergate Scandal. At the end of the issue Snake must face the might of Raven, who is a bit better equipped than Snake, seeing as he has a tank, and a turret gun. What will happen to Snake? You know as well as I do. He will get through all of this only to be replaced on the next mission by a twiggy fellow with long, white hair. What a mighty tribute and hellafun nod to the makers of a landmark game, and creators of a cult icon with an unforgettably campy name: Solid Snake. I rate this one a Mint quality comic destined to further the reputation of our favorite black ops, mullet man.
