Green Lantern: Rebirth
#4 |
|
Okay, where to begin? This whole issue is a fight-scene
between Parallax, who is sort of fear incarnate, and every superhero in
the DCU, who are all very afraid (except for the Spectre, who is rude,
is no longer Hal Jordan, and just doesn’t seem to care about anyone
but God.)
There is also an ongoing-fight scene between Green and Yellow: the force of Green represented by Green Arrow and Green Lantern (Kyle, not Hal), and the force of evil Yellow represented by Sinestro the eggheaded yellow-ring bearer. In this fight, Ollie even tries to charge up Hal’s old ring, but his using it as effective as Master Shake using his Shake-Power on Aqua Teen. Needless to say, Sinestro is unharmed and unimpressed, and the fight continues throughout the book. I have really enjoyed this series, but this one is nowhere close to as good as issue three. The story (Geoff Johns) in this issue is pretty light with no real surprises, except one involving the Guardian, but nothing comes of it in this issue, so we have to wait until the next. The artwork in these books, by Van Sciver, is very intently drawn, but I have to say that I dislike the agedness that everyone seems to carry. Superman looks ancient. Bruce looks like he should be in an armchair writing his adventures instead of playing a part in them. Wonder Woman’s boobs are even sagged-out. In fact, the youngest looking person in this book is Hal Jordan’s dead father. How does that work anyway? I think the lines and inks are too heavy, and too much attention is given to each possible or probable line in each character’s face. I think more focus should be put into the fluidity of the motion which often appears too solid, and without life. I am definitely sold on this series, and I know that it will begin a new era for the Green Lantern, one which will hold the best Lantern ever, Hal. But what is DC going to do with the Spectre? As Hal Jordan, the Spectre was the coolest! Who is going to play host to the spirit of vengeance? If I had my way it would be Alfred. Who better to go on haunting Bats than the Spectre himself? “Some sugar in your morning tea, sir?” “Thank you Alfr…AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” |
