Y the Last Man #32 |
This is a hilarious comic, but then you already knew that, didn’t you? Y the Last Man is a consistently good book with a great array of humor, intrigue, and innuendo. Of course, it sometimes breaches the boundaries of innuendo, and dives headlong into that realm we’ll call comical exploits. This issue is replete with each one of these qualities, and therefore delivers plenty of enjoyment for the guy in all of us. I am a guy. Centering on Yorick and company trying to find Ampersand, who was kidnapped by the ninja lady, this episode puts them on a cruise liner headed to Japan. Naturally things go terribly awry, which leads to humor, intrigue, innuendo, and the previously mentioned headlong dive. Let’s face it, the book can also be downright sexy, and you have to love a book that can do that without all of that quality being wrapped into the art. Instead, it is the writing that lends the book the occasional touch of sex appeal without getting ridiculous or smutty, and that shows talent. Of course, were all of the art like unto the art of the cover, then I might be singing a different tune. Look at that cover! It wins my vote for cover of the month. Y the Last Man, based on one of the best concepts in recent comic history, is a book that all of you should be reading. I mean everyone. The art is great, and appropriate for the genre. The storyline continues to entertain, as it weaves through all of the ins and outs of life post all-male-apocalypse. The social issues it touches and exposes and the ridiculous tendencies of politics and society which it points out are all made hilariously fierce in the context of the book. Should you decide to ignore this book it is fine with me. I can sit here all pompous like, and feel superior to you and your forebears. That means your ancestors were bears, which means you are rooting through my garbage nightly. Stay out, or I will poor anti-freeze in there. Oh, I see you found my copy of Wolverine: Soultaker. Go on, furry fella. It might actually be good to you. -Peblee |
