X-23 #2
Didn’t I tell you it would get crueler? I told you, but you wouldn’t listen. You said to yourself, “There’s no way that Craig Kyle and Chris Yost could write anything meaner that Issue #1! No one is that spiteful.” But you were wrong, and I was right. HA! For those of you who haven’t read issue #1, I suggest you do so… NOW! Now, do it now! Go! But if you don’t have it, I suggest you check out my review on it, or Inane Discussion #2. Suffice it to say that Zander Rice is a twisted a-hole working on the Weapon X project, X23 is a female clone of Wolverine, Sutter is the mysterious man now in charge of Weapon X, and Dr. Kinney is the head of the X23 project and also actually gave birth to X23.

Once again, Kyle and Yost’s story is superb and deeply enthralling. Only the coldest of readers cannot peruse this issue without experiencing some emotion, especially anger. Fierce, blinding anger. Billy Tan’s penciling is still above par, and together with Jon Sibal (inker) and Brian Haberlin (colorist) has made a very good looking comic that makes X23’s sad story even more painful in its visual detail. I have no complaints with the art this time, and I have to say that I love the way the cells are arranged. This is top-notch you guys.

X23 #2 takes place seven years after the first issue. X23 has been raised as a weapon and Dr. Rice works hard to remove anyone and anything that might make her feel or think like a normal person. This has gone so far that X23 rarely shows emotion, even when she is brutally abused by Rice. Her only meaningful human contact comes from her fighting instructor and her mother, Dr. Kinney. I will not tell you what happens to X23 in this issue, but suffice it to say that it is in the same vein that the rest of this comic is written in. So it is not going to be fun.

This comic would make a good story in any media, and I truly believe that X23 is going to be big in the Marvel world someday. So if you like Marvel, you will probably end up being a fan of X23 one way or another. So do yourself a favor and pick up the comic which tells her origin because, trust me, if you don’t you will wish that you had.
