Good Guys vs. Bad Guys

"Why Villians are Better"

Ok Minions, who rule? Why, we do of course! We villians are the coolest characters around and every one knows it. Oh, they won’t admit it even to themselves. But, deep down even the heroes of the world think that we are cooler than they are.

Now in a sense, everyone likes villains. Name a person alive that doesn’t find Darth Vader awesome? The fact is that evil is in and it's here to stay. From music to comic books, the coolest characters around belong to the dark side. Most people don’t want to believe it but every one has more villain in them then hero. That is the point. People admire heroes but they associate with villains because it is much easier to see themselves doing what the villains do. Villains maim, kill and destroy and we all wish that we could do the same because in a sense they are more free than we will ever be. They do what they want, when they want, for their own reasons, and everything else be damned. That has great appeal. Villains are mirrors into our souls and what we see reflected is all too common except their souls are free of guilt.

You can see it even in the way that villains are written: The writers and designers of hero books even feel that the villains are cooler. Over the years, most of the great moments and scenes throughout all literary-creation have been delivered by villains. And, isn’t it ironic, how villains have become the focus of the stories and not the heroes that fought against them. They are the driving elements of any story. When a good villain is lacking the story is lacking.

We also associate with villains because, to a lesser extent, we have all been in their shoes. Many have felt segregated and degraded like Magneto. Many have felt the need for revenge like Mr. Freeze or the call of wealth and power like The Kingpin. The difference is that, unlike them, we are chained to moral traditions that our fathers gave us and we assume that they are right only because those who came before us said that they were. Villains represent humanity without restraint and that is something to be envied.

Till next time, minions
