The Twilight Experiment #2
The Twilight Experiment is the story of the son of two great heroes, both of which died saving the world. Michael is also gifted with super powers though he has decided to try to live a normal life. In this world, Earth happens to be connected to another world entirely, though its influence on the story is still unknown. This world is none as Viridian, which is at its year 16000BC, and is connected to modern day Earth at “Area Zero.”

Writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray have begun what has the potential to be a truly great story. It is very original and interesting, and if they pull it off, I am sure it will be one of my favorites. The artwork by Juan Santacruz, while better than the cover, is not fantastic. Still, it is not terrible and serves its purpose being expressive and is never cramped or confusing.

In Issue #2 Michael is leaving the space station where he has lived his whole life in hopes of achieving a more “normal” existence, as it is his 18th birthday. His computer/trainer/guardian attempts to impart some final wisdom before he leaves and attempts to persuade Michael to be the hero his parents had wanted him to become. Michael will have none of it. Meanwhile, Rene, daughter of some as of yet unnamed superhero, has discovered some sort of healing ability. (And is almost certainly At least it seems she has discovered, but she might have already had knowledge of this and other powers. She goes to visit the monument to Michael’s mother, Serenity, and witnesses some sort of crash from outer space. Upon investigation, she finds Michael on his first visit to Earth. While all this is happening, a strange man is meeting with some inhabitants of Viridian. They seem to be executing some sort of plan that has some very strict time guidelines. While the nature of the plan is unknown, it seems awfully shady, mostly because it involves the guy who killed serenity in stasis.

You never can tell how a comic will pan out. All you can do is watch and guess. My guess for this series is that it is going to be really good. Some original heroes, strange ancient worlds, a little apocalypse. Yep, this one has the makings of an interesting read.
