The Goon 16 |
Oh Eric Powell, why are you so rare and good? This, me hearties, is the only authentic and raw mafia vs mafia vs zombie mob comic filled with fine class and gentile speech that you are going to find. In a one of a kind book, The Goon offers a respite from all of the seriousness of modern issues by telling an intriguing and poignant story filled with wit and clever turnpoints that never fail to surprise. The genius of this book lies within its amazing characters. Filled with attitude and superstition, a distrust of money, nice clothes, beggars, doctors, and philosophy, The Goon is a witty Conan for a Depression Era world of gangs, unions, prayer rallies and snake-oil salesmen. In this issue we are blessed once again with an appearance of the Vulture. And, we are blessed for the first time with an extra story by Mike Oeming and Thomas Sniegoski. Their tale is a bit rough, as it is what the Goon would no doubt call, anti-baby. But, it is funny and pleasing, and has the great line “Hey look, Goon, I’m makin’ easy money!” With lines like that, and the Goon wiping out competition like the Hulk gets ladies, there’s no stopping Eric Powell and this headsplittin’ roughneck book. -Peblee |
