Action Comics #824 |
|
Hey Action Comics, I thought you were supposed to be
a lame book that only kept its readership because of devoted collectors,
tie-ins with other Supes-books, and the fact that you are the longest
running sucker out there. How in the world did you get so good? The art
by Reis could absolutely not have been better. Add in an awesome, hard-hitting
story by guest writer J.D. Finn and you got a combo that will haul any
other comic of Darkseid-strength off to the edge of the cosmos, only to
leave it there to die along with all the other would-be conquerors against
the "source wall" that is the boundry of their possible popularity.
This is serious fun, folks, like watching a cat who unfortunately grabs a moving ceiling-fan kind of fun. I mean, there is so much action, an appearance by Aquaman, an attack by a militia of anti-super-types, Hawkman, and a full-on fight between Supes and Preus, the end of which only spells more trouble for Clark. The art has no confusion intrinsic to it: you always know what is going on in every fight, in every frame. All of this is drawn to perfection (except for Aquaman’s hairdo, which seems He-Man-ish) by Reis. Each frame is superb, full of motion, well done with consistent characters, and real emotion. I really cannot give anything away in this one. So, no storyline will be touched. Buy this book!!! Let me say this. Reis and Finn have a palpable chemistry that comes through on every page. Unfortunately, my amoeba-sized brain cannot not recall whether these two have worked together in the past, or not, but I tell you it is magic. This storyline which goes back two issues is so worth the read. You cannot afford to miss it. Even those of you who just enjoy good pencils/inks/colors should check out the team working on this book.
