Wolverine #35

It seems that a little before Wolverine realized that the House of M was a false reality, he lead a secret hunt for the rogue human leader, Nick Fury. A hunt that almost cost him his life and position. (Actually, this never actually happened, because Wolverine realized it was all fake as soon as the Scarlet Witch changed reality into a mutant ruled world. All of the back-story was fabricated by her, memories to replace reality and make everyone believe that the House of M was the real world.) But since this comic is not real, a fake story in a fictional comic is excusable.

In all actuality, the story is brilliant and fits perfectly with Wolverine’s and Mystique’s characters. The art is not great as far as sheer aesthetics, but it is extremely fluid and expressive. You can tell there was a lot of work put into it. What bugs me is that this is a brilliant story arc, yet is marred by a painfully massive plot hole.

CAUTION: SPOILER!

Mystique assumed Fury’s identity to give Wolverine the war that he longed for and gave him purpose, but she had to take more and more drastic actions to make it seem real and ended up stealing a Sentinel from a government base all to further the illusion. That is fantastic writing, but the fact is that from the beginning of their characters, Wolverine has always been able to tell who Mystique was in any disguise! Maybe things have changed, but I am positive that she cannot fool Wolverine. But hey, this story is so good that I can easily overlook this, and I am very excited about the conclusion in the next issue.
