Wintermen #2 |
In the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia could not afford to fund the massive army and special-forces that it had amassed. Many of these ex-soldiers turned into mercenaries and criminals. The Winter Men is the story of the leader one such unit that was a part of Russia’s super soldier program. Specifically, they were the Rocket Men, (think Soviet Iron Men). Josef is now a mercenary, as is the girl that was in his unit, Nina. The other two are now a cop and a mobster respectively. Now Josef has been forcefully hired by the Russian government to travel to America to rescue a girl that was kidnapped for the organ trade. Only something is not right about it. It seems an awful lot of trouble to go through considering most of the police are themselves crooks. This is not your every day detective story. Josef is a hardened and ruthless man that really gives an in-depth look into the prideful decay of a zealot who has lost his cause. This comic successfully immerses you into a whole different type of crime in a world of men with strange loyalties, honor, and a completely different perspective than our own. This book is fantastically executed and arranged, and the artwork fits in like the style is meant solely for this story. It is not a main stream comic, but it would behoove any fan of good reading to pick it up. -Fumanchu |
