Villains United #1

With all that has happened in the DC Universe, especially the unfortunate brainwashing of Dr. Light, it seems that many of the villains, thugs, hoods, nare-do-wells, brigands, delinquents, mentally unstables, and jay-walkers have decided to team up in an attempt to protect their evil, misguided, criminal, or sexually abhorrent ways of life. It seems that the Calculator is assembling any criminal he can get his hands on into a group called The Society, and anyone who refuses winds up dead or at least very, very sad. It seems that they might be having some trouble with some of the big league bad guys, and so this Society seems to be mostly made up of third class losers who probably couldn’t defeat Inspector Gadget, much less the Justice League. At the same time, a mysterious figure named Mockingbird is assembling her (I think it’s a her) own team of halfwit villains, but she is using only six. Six C list villains who barely were able to take out a bunch of wimpy bee guys with jet packs. And a couple of them have to be in the right circumstances to be of any help, such as around lions. And yet, they are somehow going to beat a group of villains with 200 plus members and gaining, and then take out the JLA? Underdog would have a better shot.

Despite the hapless team facing insurmountable odds, this comic was actually pretty fun to read. The artwork is pretty simplistic, but it’s not bad. All and all it was pretty funny, in fact. I just have a hard time figuring out where it’s going. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
