The Goon #13 |
I am sure you are all aware of the brilliant art and writing of Eric Powel, but I am going to tell you about it anyway. Powell’s the Goon is one of my favorite comics of all time, and this recent issue is one of my favorite Goon issues. So to put it briefly, this issue rocked. I have rarely laughed out loud at a comic, but Powell’s absurd dry humor gets me every time. In issue 13, the Goon is placed in the slammer once again and is running the place in a matter of hours. Meanwhile, a group of homicidal orphans decide to spring the Goon in hopes of getting a job that involves stabbing, beating, shiving, or otherwise bludgeoning various random passersby. And all the while, the Goons short second in command keeps the thugs in line by breaking some legs ahead of schedule. Powell’s is great as usual. His style is completely unique, and I love his coloring. It is great to read random issues, but I have to strongly recommend collecting the whole series if you can. You won’t regret it.
