The Goon #12

Anyone who doesn’t read the Goon is a sad shell of a man, or at least misinformed. The Goon is just a great series. It s jam packed with hilarity, old school art, loveable yet violent characters, humorous stereotypes, and the occasional out of place comment that can send you rolling across the floor I agonizing giggles. The Goon himself is a bizarre character. He is a Mafia boss that is roughly as strong and tough as Hellboy. He fights an assortment of undead, supernatural, and super villains as well as “ducks the flatfoots” and “avoids the pokey.” The comic is written, drawn, and colored by Eric Powell, who has to be one of the cleverest comic writers I can think of.

In Issue #12, Dr. Alloy has had a brain switching accident and has unleashed his “virtual army of automatons” on the city. Naturally Goon beats up on some robots and lots of fun ensues. The Goon is a direct and clever jaunt away from the realm of the standard comic book, and it’s a good idea for both serious and lighthearted comic fans. I mean, comics are called comics because once upon a time they were all funny. If anything, the Goon is a true comic, and the others are usurpers. It’s time we took back our comic heritage!
