Teen Titans #28

This issue is the second and last in the story arc “Legacy” which takes place on Fathers Day. In the first issue, the Teen Titans beat the snot out of some previously snotty, spoiled, rich demi-humans who are terrorizing some company and holding the employees hostage. Just when the Titans had just about swept up these B-class jokers, Kestrel (chaos dimension middle-man) shows up and takes two of them under his wing (after they kill the other three). He then proceeds to steal Raven’s soul in order to get himself a promotion and a fat raise down in chaos town. In this issue, the Titans follow him into his home world and attempt to retrieve Raven’s soul.

All in all, this story line seemed pretty rushed. The Chaos dimension seemed like it was out of a cartoon. Basically Kestrel steals Raven’s soul, they take it back. Sure there was some message about family and fathers, but it was all so compact that no point was ever really made. Unless the point was that the Titans are family, but a flimsy and vague notion like that cannot make up for the rushed story or the bad artwork. Don’t let this one ruin you on the Titans. Teen Titans has otherwise been a fantastic series, and I hope it will be again real soon.
