Swamp Thing #15 |
We are off o a great beginning, starting somewhere in the middle of an interesting sory. Of course, the tale has an ol’ standard setting: Corporate America pitted against Academia; greedy capitalists unconcerned with nature or mankind, busy squeezing profits out of killing the environment vs. well intended hip professors seeking answers for the good of mankind (the answers lay in the swamp). While the artwork is exceptionally good and projects a certain artsy surrealness, the real people in this book look like industrial rejects held together with bad English and baling-wire like an old Chevy truck. There is also the establishment of philosophy, you might call the Swamp Twine theory that is to hold together the connections of the story. The earth, or at least its life force, is the “Green” which is in trouble because Swamp Thing won’t get off of his “Sorry for myself” stump and go kick some unethical ass. However the bio-micro-floral-bloom of love is going to direct the flow of thought and cause some blood splattering later (I hope) Over all, the storyline promises much more well thought out issues that will keep us anxious to read Swamp Thing. My big hopes are: 1. Academia is not portrayed as Camelot 2. More babes are included in future issues (I envision a sexy Palmetto female with a bad attitude. 3. Somebody or something gets killed at least once per episode (that way, I feel that we are progressing at a good rate of growth. 4. They create a Swamp Thing Responsibility Club in which we plant something every month and protest some irresponsible corporation. Come on Swamp Thing. Let’s make it real, and let’s make it count.-Zenith |
