Son of Vulcan #1 |
To make things clear, The Son of Vulcan is not actually Vulcan’s son. Vulcan is a superhero that is “the keeper of the flame” and “the wielder of the sword” among other things that I don’t really understand yet. But it seems that Son of Vulcan is going to have a lot of interesting back-story. In the meantime, Vulcan is a pretty cool looking dude with a space age suit and a fat, powerful sword. And I do mean fat as in it is weird and thick, but it does chop pretty good and set things on fire. Whatever Vulcan is, he’s not the first or the last, because it appears that the position of the keeper of the flame must be passed down to a prodigy. That’s wear The Son of Vulcan steps in, or should I say the sidekick of Vulcan. Unfortunately for Miguel, he might have to take over his duties a lot sooner than expected, as in when he has as little idea of what they are as I do. This new Vulcan should be a pretty interesting hero, though the story smacks of “young kid tossed into hero role” clichés. Still, the writing is both good and promising. The artwork is cartoony, but very expressive of movement and expression. The only problem is that it has the annoying tendency to get crowded and confusing. I think this series is worth taking a look, but I fear that it will never be very deep or very good. -Fumanchu |
