Red Sonja: One More Day

Red Sonja is minding her own business, when she receives a hawk from one of her exes requesting her aid in saving his kingdom from the conqueror, Sul. What ensues is a truly excellent one shot. The writing was great and very reminiscent of old-style Robert E. Howard stuff. The artwork is sketchy, but brilliantly laid out (except the one where Sul is about to hack Sonja). And the frames range from gritty battles, to charcoal like macabre, to chiseled and statuesque pictures that have an almost stained glass quality to them. This is just a great comic that lacks the problem that many one shots have of bunching up writing to fill in gaps. The story is fluid and enthralling. I also like that we get to see more to Sonja than tough talk and ass kicking. Not only is she a great fighter, but a brilliant tactician as well. And lets not forget the send off that she gives to the ill-fated Amir. I mean, if you have to go, there are few better ways.

This one shot is a great first look for newcomers, but any fan of comics, especially those of comics inspired by Robert E. Howard, should be ashamed not to own this comic.
