Red Sonja #1 |
Well, I thought that we’d show you all the ways you can waste money on a red-headed, female Conan. Just kidding, we are only going to show you five ways to waste money on a red-headed, female Conan clone:
The above two, by Rivera and Linser, are my favorites. The three above those are by Cassaday, Ross, and Turner, respectively. Now that you have seen all that, let me say that buying any one, or all of these books is not a bad idea, and actually, in no way a waste of money. The interior art, by Mel Rubi is astounding and follows the same perfected-grittiness that features in the art of Cary Nord's Conan. As for the story, like Busiek’s Conan, Oeming and Cary take the medium left them by the Robert E Howard and those, like Frank Thorne, who came after, and they have molded it into a thing of beauty and greatness. Although the story (and especially the ridiculous odds) of Red Sonja are a bit more incredible and unbelievable (and of course, drastically sexier) than Conan, the story is still filled with beheadings, and valiant derring-do, which makes it wonderful to read. The amount of gore necessary for Sonja to escape the cliffhanger they left her in, will no doubt be impressive when we see her again next month. -Peblee |
