The Portent 1 |
At first, I was a bit unsure of this comic, but after only a few seconds of reading, I realized how mistaken I was. It would be very hard for me to describe this comic to you because nothing in it is explained. What I can tell you is that a young man with an old sword is on some kind of journey through a valley where the dead and the living both exist, but the relationship between these two groups has grown somewhat violent. More than this, it seems that a counsel of seers in an abandoned city have other plans for this mysterious traveler. The artwork is a simple yet brilliant, heavily shadowed style that reminds me very much of Mike Mignola, as does the writing. The writing and art are both done by Peter Bergting, a decidedly talented, but unknown to me, writer. The story is enigmatic and somewhat humorous, but the overall plot is truly intriguing. I really want to read the rest of this story right now. Much like the Hellboy comic this reminds me of, this is the kind of book that every type of comic fan can enjoy. Trust me when I say that this is a series you don’t want to miss. I have the feeling that I will soon be a Bergting fan. -Fumanchu |
