Night Mary #1 |
This is some of the best artwork that I have seen in a while. I am a fan of stylized art over realistic art in comics, which is why I love Ashley Wood (Lore, Metal Gear Solid) and Stackle (Containment). Well, I have now added Kieron Dwyer to that Prestigious list. The artwork is excellent both in style and in concept. For example, the ream sequence is in full color, whereas “real life” is black and white except for the prodigious amount of blood. The story, like the art is excellent. Written by Rick Remender and Dwyer, it is about a girl, Mary, who is a ‘Lucid Dreamer’ – a person with the ability to witness and influence the dreams of others. Together with her apparently psychotherapist, Professor of a father she works to help people suffering from psychological trauma. Naturally there is a history which lends the rub, as it were, in which Mary pushed someone too hard while dream-side. Things got ugly, and people died. Now, she has witnessed a second travesty – worse even than your hygiene – and all goes to hell. Awesomeness is to be expected from here on out from Mary and her creators, Remender and Dwyer. An excellent book, I highly recommend it. -Peblee |
