Mister Miracle #1

As he continually does, Morrison has taken me down a very unfamiliar road, all the while taunting me with bits and pieces of unidentifiable plot structure and heretofore meaningless encounters. What’s more, he does all of this consistently knowing that I will continue to follow because I believe he will eventually come around to explaining what the hell is really going on.

And so you have books like Shining Knight, which was excellent on many levels, while also being far too short for my mentally challenged synapses to grasp on to the exact meaning of the events, or even a ballpark understanding of the impetus for drawing my attention to such goings on, except that they are really strange and often kick ass.

Such is the way of Mister Miracle #1. This book starts out with a David Blain/Buck Rogers stunt and ends with a death-defying stunt with the massively unfortunate name, “the Drive-By Derby!”

I know what you are thinking. I will NOT read anything that even hints at an obnoxious event of that name. But, rest assured that Morrison is telling his massive and poignant tale through a particular medium, and in doing so he is using all styles of that medium. Give it a chance. Certainly it could be great, and heck, it could never be as bad as Manhattan Guardian.
