Mnemovore #1

Spellchecker says that Mnevovore is apparently not a word, but it is a bizarre, tentacled monster that devours memories and consciousness, much like reality television. Kaley Markowik was a famous snowboarder for the U.S. Olympic team until she took a bad fall and suffered some serious brain damage causing some memory loss. Or at least it seemed like that was the cause. Most of this Issue is about a girl trying to cope with amnesia. It is so well done that you can almost feel the isolation and frustration of loosing your memories. Meanwhile, the doctors seem to pay no notice to the unnatural spiral on her MRI. This goes unexplained until later in the issue when the spiral turns out to be some kind of memory eating fluke that, of course, grows in to a large, squishy abomination. This brings up some serious questions as to what actually happened to Kaley.

Hans Rodionoff and Ray Fawkes (writers) have got me hooked from the get go with what was an emotionally enthralling story about a sad and confused girl trying to get her life back and turned into an exciting, science fiction battle for survival. The dialogue is phenomenal, and the comic is just fun to read. Mike Huddleston’s cover is simply amazing, and the interior art (while not as good, I mean, he didn’t have a decade to make draw it all) is pretty simple but shows moments of true talent.

I have the feeling that this one is going to be pretty good, and since I’m right almost half the time, you can bet on it. But if you don’t believe me, pick up Issue #1 and check out the next one when it comes out. And go ahead and do it if you do believe me. And if your not sure, than you are probably an indecisive wimp, in which cause I order you to get this series. So now you have to get it no matter what. HA!
