The Losers #26

“Interesting? Very.

Possible? Absolutely not.”

The Losers is probably one of the best-written comic series out right now. This alone is reason enough to check it out, but this latest issue gives you an even better reason. That reason is that the learning curve has now dropped substantially (i.e. it was previously impossible to read this series without reading all of it as you would have no idea what is going on). This story arch is relatively independent or previous knowledge, and what you do need to know is explained well enough that you can pick it up comfortably. I am telling you this because this series is fantastic, and you may not get another chance to jump into it without buying back issues for a while.

The Losers themselves are a group of agents that specialize in the various areas of espionage and killing people. They work for and mostly against the government, and their current mission is the most substantial yet. With the help of the Defense Agency, an ex-CIA agent that goes simply by Max has is creating a nation in an extremely interesting yet ludicrous way. (Which I won’t tell you). Which is really not so bad except that he has made forty-some nuclear weapons and has positioned them all in major cities as a threat to anyone that would challenge his new nation. To make sure the leaders of the world believe him, he is going to have a little demonstration, and it is up to the Losers to stop him.

As I said before, the writing is great. Andy Diggle has created a suspenseful espionage masterpiece that is enthralling despite being somewhat unbelievable. The art by Colin Wilson is stylized and somewhat sketchy, but works perfectly with the comic. This is a great and atypical comic that is well worth checking out. (Plus the covers are simply kick-ass).
