Klarion #2

I hope that the irony of a devout group of witch-people that have separated themselves from the unbelievers by moving deep underground and dressing like Puritan Pilgrims is not lost on you… Because it is lost on me. Irony? I think what I meant to say is absurd weirdness. Klarion is definitely the strangest mini series in Grant Morrison’s Seven Soldiers Series’, but it is also the best. I really am overwhelmed by the amount of thought that has been put into the story of Klarion the witch-boy. In fact, the best par of this comic is the strange and obscure places, peoples, and names that have all been masterfully planned and created by the ever-scheming Morrison. Theirs the rats that have discovered tools, an entity made up of lost children known as Leviathan, and Vanity Fair, the place where the upper and lower worlds meet to do business.

Klarion himself is a strange character. He is somewhat oblivious to reality. He’s the kind of kid that laughs when he finds out his god isn’t real and snuggles his cat while hordes of children tear people apart. And all the while, as Klarion’s world and beliefs are ripped asunder, he remains completely hopeful and optimistic.

I am very excited to read the rest of this series. We have yet to see the extent of Klarion’s powers or abilities, and so far it looks like he might not have many. But he is upbeat, resourceful, and apparently mildly insane. Basically, this is just a great comic and I beseech, nay, I implore you to read it.
