Hellblazer #211 |
It is hard to say just how many times John Constantine has been stabbed in the back. I would guess a lot, and this issue contains a nice collection of people who have done the stabbing, some literally. It seems that Nergal never really intended to help Constantine retrieve the soul of his sister, as Nergal was the one who took it in order to steal the body of his invisible brother. Simple really. But naturally, Constantine had already sussed this turn of events with his amazing powers of sussion and cooked up a scheme that would keep both Nurgal and his dearly beloved form torturing him for eternity. What that plan is, I’m not really sure, and I have to confess I am a little worried. As always Mike Carey’s story and dialogue are brilliant. Its mixture of surreal supernatural, dark stygian madness, and dry wit are a staple in modern comics. The artwork, though sketchy and gritty, is fantastic with some of the best shading known to man done by Leonardo Manco. All in all, this is a great story arc in a great comic, and that should be good enough for you. -Fumanchu |
