What a kickass back-story on Rosacarnis, the daughter of Nergal, and now the ruler of the House of Nergal. This story is incredible, filled with excellent character development: Nergal now has control of Constantine, which was an evil necessary to defeat the various enemies waiting for the pair of them around each pleasant corner of hell. Through the device of Nergal’s memories dancing merrily through Constantine’s mind, we get to view the goings on of the House of Nergal at a time when Nergal was dead. How does Nergal remember the events that took place at his home while he was gone? Well, leave that question alone, and just follow along with me.

Rosacarnis defeated her uncle by poisoning him (she poisoned some naked humans, knowing that her uncle would no doubt devour them while they danced before a maddening horde of hellions), and killing his soldiers. These events occurred 17 years ago, and now as Nergal and John are traveling to the House of Nergal, they are going to meet an older, more beautiful, probably naked, and more evil Rosacarnis. Only thing is that while all of this is going on John’s sister is dead on the floor of her living room and rapidly approaching a state of disrepair. Of course being in hell, as they are, it isn’t like Nergal and John are actually taking up any time – being in eternity, I mean. But, you do start to wonder if they are going to make it back in time to save the young lady.

I don’t know how many of you read this book, but I think that it is one of the best comics you can buy. And, it is little cruel and frightening histories like the one shown here that make this book so damn cool.
