Batman: Gotham County Line #1

Steve Niles takes bats into the realm of horror with this three-part mini which takes place on the outskirts of Gotham. This is an excellent story which is only missing one thing in my mind. There was a series of murders culminating in a suicide. This results in two things: Batman suspecting that there are higher-up baddies involved, and the revealing to the reader of Zombies. We know now that the killer, a stray cop, was essentially making a small army of undead brutes, but for whom? Herein lies the problem. A Batman tale is supposed to be a mystery, but a mystery in which clues are dropped. Sometimes they are dropped blatantly to be misleading, and at other times they are dropped unwisely and obviously due to poor writing, still other times they are dropped so brilliantly that one might finish a story and re-read it only to find clues left all along. Well, I surely hope that this is the case with this tale. I read and re-read it, and for all my searching can find no clues whatsoever. Maybe I read it under the influence of beer, a mind numbing agent not suitable for proper detective work, but maybe there just aren’t any clues, and this is just going to be horror.

If so, waaaaaah.
