The Goon 18
This is truly a day of ill tidings. Eric Powell, master of comic comedy, has been forced, not just to edit his work, but to postpone it entirely. That is right. Powell, known for pushing the envelope and censoring himself for no man has backed down an entire issue! Now don’t get me wrong, Powell has my full support. I am not mad at him at all, but rather at the Bible thumping backwaters with nothing better to do than mess with free speech.
Now, I will agree that an issue like “Satan’s Sodomy Baby” might put some people off, and understandably so. But Powell had the full intention of giving it a “Mature Readers Only” rating as well as actually hiding the cover. Now that is virtually unheard of. Even the ungodly comic “Tarot” has the ability to display sickeningly perverse content in full sight of any non-blind young persons. But despite the fact that no children could see or purchase this comic, the apparently bored and unbearable Margaret Snodgrass, and her obviously high opinion of herself, took it upon herself to decide what the public can and can’t read, not unlike any organization that ever called itself a “junta”, “regime”, or “riek”.
Still, the issue 18 we were given instead is up to Eric Powell’s standards, and is subsequently hilarious. So don’t loose heart, because our hero has promised that “Satan’s Sodomy Baby” will be released one day.
