Fables 51
Well, that’s 50 down, and hopefully a lot more to come. The previous, bicentennial issue of Fables saw the long overdue marriage of Snow White and Bigby Wolf, as well as an intense, secret-esque, action packed mission carried out by Bigby that destroyed the adversaries magical grove of world conquering trees and created an uneasy cease fire between the Mundy world and her adversaries. So what now? Many of the past problems have been resolved in one fell swoop! Or have they?
Willingham abstinently refuses to skip any beat whatsoever regardless of any heavy drinking that might have occurred to celebrate the fiftieth issue of what is arguably the best comic series running. (And as some of you know, it has recently lost some heavy competition within Vertigo; see my Lucifer #75 review). The war is still on, and that irascible Gepetto won’t be content to sit idly by for long. Fabletown isn’t going to just sit around and wait. So the lovely, and sometimes naked, Cinderella is sent on an extremely annoying diplomatic mission to gain the “high ground” (heh… sorry.) over the enemies of the fables.
I know I am always trying to persuade my both of my readers to collect this book, but there is no better time that now to get started (unless it was when the comic started). With many issues resolved and all new plot material; the learning curve is almost non-existent. At any rate, pick up the first trade (as in trade paperback) or two, you’ll be hooked to it like you were to parachute pants in 1992.-Fumanchu
