Fables #44 |
Fables is ever the bright star in my comic month. This bastion of comic greatness has yet to have a bad issue. This issue is in fact one of the best. It is better than your genetic makeup and possibly better than that of Katie Holmes. Much to the chagrin of the vizier Yusuf, Frau Totenkinder muddled his instructions to the Djinn. So, rather than doing the bidding of Yusuf and destroying the better part of the Fables, the Genie turne on Yusuf, destroyed his network and, after King Cole had his greatest line ever “Silence you pig eater.” The Genie killed Yusuf. There is also a ton of ambiguous politics in this issue. I can’t figure out the message. There is a few good words for the soldiers, and bad words on the occupation of Baghdad. Then there are protestors who are told to shuttup, join the Mundys if they want to act uncivilized, but their picketing will not be accepted in Fabletown. Also, the Arabians are put in chains, heads covered, and marched single file to a holding facility. This is at first frowned on, but after given reason – so that the Arabians see no Fable secrets – it is accepted. So what is the moral? I see none, only ambiguity. The Fables did what they did from necessity. Justification, all around. This is the best book of all. -Peblee |
