Man, oh man.

Fables is one of the best books I have ever read. The stories just keep on getting better. You might think that with a slightly limited premise, involving characters that already exist in Western Mythology and their continued interaction, this series would be running out of material. But, you would be wrong, like a severed horse head in your bed accompanied by sweet mysterious violin-music wrong. Know what I mean?

The current story arc, as mentioned in every freaking issue of Near Mint Minus, involves the heroic deeds of one Boy Blue. Chronicling his progression throughout multiple worlds, this arc sees him through the assassinations of various and sundry oppressors. In this issue it is the emperor himself that is the target of his ancient blade.

After a long comic of trickery, in which you and I are deceived (although a bit knowingly, and hopefully) there is a mighty “SNIKCER-SNACK” and an outsized head goes a’ tumbling down. But, just when the Boy Blue is about to make his feathery exit, the Snow Queen (who has quite a rack, by the way) leaves him frozen in his tracks…or flaps, or whatever kind of things birds leave.

What is in store for the hero? Hopefully a long winter’s nap next to her majesty.
