Ex Machina #13

Congratulations to Brian K Vaughan for taking home the 2005 Eisner Award for Best Writer. Of course it is known to all of ye that I love the writings of Vaughan, so it should come as no surprise that I am here, once again to send praise his way.

Ex Machina, which itself won the 2005 Eisner Award for Best New Series, has got to be the best new series. Filled with excellent characters and the best dialogue, this book is just one more reason that WildStorm rocks.

Then there is the excellent, if very unorthodox, pencils of Tony Harris. His style is heavy on the close-ups and almost absurd facial expressions. But, it is brilliant artwork all the same.

The current storyline is focusing on the Automaton, an apparent creation of Hundred himself. Though without a temper, the Automaton seems to have been made with a considerable distaste for crime and a love of killing criminals. Capital punishment is the name of his game, and that is why the commissioner is going after him with every available, secret gun. But she isn’t the only one, Kremlin and the rest of Hundred’s cavalry are out to find this Automaton.

The funny thing is that no one is asking Hundred about it. They are all just seeking it out on the assumption that it is an imposter, a copycat, or an invention of the Great Machine.

Who knows where Vaughan is going to take this one? The only thing you can be sure of is Vaughan will not disappoint, and hey, that’s more than your parents can say about you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some people to go let down.
