District X #12

Finally a conclusion to the grub-mole storyline! And, I think I must say that it was rather a pleasurable last issue. Not only did Bishop survive, despite Nemesio’s vision of his death, but Izzy, realizintg both his folly and his inability to cope with a wife who’s mutation allows him no night time exploits (wink wink – nudge nudge) moved on to another girl – the shape-shifting fantasy maker, yet he loves her, apparently, and tells her she needs not change for any fantasy, but rather likes and is attracted to her true, and trollish form.

This issue had some good action, some gross grub-mole, and some wrapping up. What it failed to do was shock. The only surprise, really, was that Izzy – apparently reformed – has become a real-deal nice guy. Other than that, despite the fact that the book aimed to give you a sort of DUH-DUH-DAAAAAAA! feel, it pretty much failed. All of the would be surprises have been so long coming, that they were expected. Like I said before. This arc could have been incredibly great if it would have been a 3 or 4 part mini, rather than a 6 part. It just had too many lulls.

That aside the artwork remained creepy and well done. In the final pages of this book, check out the cool pictures of Gregor. You remember Gregor? The guy with the foot-roots? Oh, wait that was three-hundred issues ago, that’s right. No it just seems like 300, but despite the now long since forgotten guy, who Izzy was forever helping being but a distant memory, he returns (somewhat ominously) at the end of this issue in a few scenes which are not to be missed.

This book has some great stories, well done freaky-deaky art, and a great somehow original concept. Of course the last arc was way too long, but my hope is that the writers and producers will take that fact to heart, and continue to make a great series, while forgoing arcs of excessive length.

* EDITOR’S NOTE*

Even “Indy” lovers can dig this book because it is way outside of mainstream in both its themes and its stories.

Also, Fumanchu is lame.
