Detective Comics #809

Well things are looking bad for Bats as he is discovered by the crooks he was attempting to infiltrate and left stabbed and bleeding in a drainage ditch. Or so you think that might happen, but this issue actually has nothing to do with the current story arc. The story in the previous issues stopped abruptly and this issue begins “War Crimes”, a follow up to “War Games.” Though it is frustrating and confusing to be torn from such a good story, confused and unsatisfied; this new story arch is actually pretty good.

The art work is line-focused and simplistic, but also pretty good. And the cover (not so good) really drives the focus home. Batman has discovered that Stephanie’s (The Spoiler, and also the girl Robin) death might have involved fowl play. (I mean, other than the Black Mask brutally torturing despoiling her.) But Batman’s investigation of her death leads to more murder, and someone is trying to frame him for it. Though I’m saddened at the strange shift; I am also eagerly awaiting the rest of this story arch. I just hope that they finish the other one someday.
