Desolation Jones #2

Deeply saddening and darkly humorous, Desolation Jones is perhaps the best new read to come out this year. If Ellis continues to deliver story and feeling so hyperbolic and subtle he will be holding an Eisner Award in 2006.

The story of a British Intelligence agent mangled by experimentation, Desolation Jones is a slow-moving peek into a supposed sub-culture of ex-spooks living side by side in L.A. Known to them as their prison, L.A. is filled with crooked goings on, which is good for business weather you are spying around for fun, or in the porn industry – apparently the only two occupations in L.A.

The art by JH Williams III is stunning, edgy, and incredibly expressive. The colors (Jose Villarrubia), too, are perfect, and may perhaps be the best WildStorm has ever put out.

The wit in this book is not to be ignored. Honestly, Ellis has put together a brilliant plotline bedraggled with humor and sadness which allows an unbelievably meaningless story to seem so desperately poignant.
