Desolation Jones is the aftermath and only survivor of a British experiment on debunked intelligence officers known as the Desolation Test. While it is unclear exactly what this mysterious experiment was and did to Jones, we do know that he has been left as an emaciated shell of a man that cannot stand direct exposure to sunlight. So what is so special about Jones? We don’t really know, except that he is tough, ruthless, and all but impervious to pain. If he has any further powers, abilities, or resistances is yet to be seen.

The story of Desolation Jones is not in any way a typical super powered tale, but focuses more on the seedy underbelly of an L.A. that is jam-packed with ex-intelligence operators. Jones is a sort of P.I. in this bizarre and highly skilled community, but we still don’t understand exactly what makes him cool enough to get things done in a group of people who’s entire lives have revolved around espionage and death. He is like a professional among professionals.

I am very anxious to see exactly what abilities the Desolation Tests left Jones with, and why he was the only one that survived this obscure medical research. I am very glad though that this comic was presented in such grand form with brilliant writing and course but professional artwork. This is going to be a romp through the woods of conspiracy, medical malpractice, and a thriving community of the most deadly and secretive people the world has ever produced. I can’t wait.
