Day of Vengeance #1

I will begin by saying that I have always been fond of the Spectre. As the most powerful character in the DCU, I do find it silly that he bothers to actually fight with people, but he is still very interesting. I like that he is indifferent to all but his orders from the Almighty. I like that he is a spirit of Justice and Vengeance and that he shows people their evil souls as he destroys them. That is all good lighthearted fun.

So, since Hal is back, and since Ted Kord died, I was sort of expecting to see the beginning of Ted Kord becoming the Spectre. Instead I saw…Well, I don’t know what I saw.

Spectre was fighting Old Man River, or Father Time or someone, and while rampaging around, he killed like a million wizards. Then a raggety Spectre wannabe saves Enchantress, or someone, from the Godzilla like carnage being created by Spectre and Beardy’s spirit brawl in a magical forest that only the magically or spiritually inclined can venture into.

Then it’s off to a bar to tell a masquerade party of the who’s who (who’s not dead, yet) of the DCU’s sorcerers that the Spectre’s going to kill them all. So, naturally, since the Spectre is the most powerful thing in the universe, they all decide to attack him. Why? Because together they can all die, whereas individually they can all die.?????

Meanwhilst there is a girl in Arkham or something who is schizophrenic, or else is going to be a hero or villain, or all three. She finds a diamond on her floor which, like all diamonds, changes her clothes, her hairdo (a couple of times, actually), her personality, and her ability to not fly (she can fly now). Why does this happen? You’ll have to wait until next time. But, unless this friggin weirdass story gets intelligible, I won’t be covering issues 2 through canceled.
