Crickets 1

One of two interestingly bizarre titles to come out this week (see The Original Adventures of Cholly and Flytrap), Crickets is the story of a guy.

Yeah a guy. I don’t know who or what he is, or even what his name is, but this enigmatic character is running from somewhere to somewhere. He also seems to be more or less arrow resistant.

At first, this comic seems to fall completely out of the realm of the normal world, and you get a surreal feeling as first the strange man survives an arrow to the eye, and a golem like creature appears in the forest and follows him around. But these bizarre figures are soon contrasted with an ill-fated father and son in their normal, old-west style lives. What ensues is a strange confrontation that leaves me with a decidedly strange feeling that is hard to explain.

Though the art and writing are very simplistic, Sammy Harkham (writer) has a strange ability to communicate volumes and enthrall his reader with scant words and zero explanations. This sort of “less is more” writing style is very intriguing and uncommon in today’s blasphemously wordy comics. This is defiantly a must have for all readers that are interested in something different. Besides, the uncomfortable yet hilarious introduction is more than enough reason to buy this comic. Besides, just look at the cover! His foot is on fire! You know you have to get it.
