Batman:LOTDK #190 |
“Lame’s Last Stand” Perhaps it was the super cool (no pun intended) Mr. Freeze featured in the recent Batman issue that made me want to check out this Batman Legends featuring the Icy Villain. Maybe I was interested because the name of the story arc is Mr. Freeze’s Final Rest. Whatever the cause, I was sadly mistaken. I probably should have known from the cartoony cover, but it is unfair for one aspect to take all the credit for this comic’s meritocracy. No, it was a team effort. There was the annoying dialogue that, much like a Japanese cartoon, had to explain everything every step of the way. I guess the writer assumed that his audience would be mentally challenged, which is how I feel after reading this. There’s also the terrible puns, and actual apologies for those terrible puns. There’s the rushed feeling of the story. The lame attempt at a non-linear story. Then there is the simple and inconsistent artwork that features four different Bruce Wayne faces, illegal use of shading, awkward movement, and annoying, parka-clad henchmen. That’s not to say that there is nothing interesting in the comic. Freeze’s strange behavior was intriguing, but not intriguing enough. Overall, it seems that this comic was just rushed. It feels like there was almost no work put into it at all, much like this review.
