Batgirl #65

Well, it is Father’s day, and like any teenager, Batgirl is assailed with anger and bad memories of her old man. Only this Father’s day takes on a more maternal feel as Cassandra attempts to discover who her mother is. Her father is, of course, Cain, who is perhaps the most deadly assassin next to Deathstroke. Batman has some ideas, and they seem to coincide uncomfortably with Cassandra’s own deductions. It seems that her mother might have been that most deadly of assassins, Lady Shiva. Since she has no one else to turn to, she decides to pay a visit to the local prison an visit Cain, and when Cassandra can’t get anything out of him, she returns as Batgirl and gives Cain one of the many beatings of his life.

It seems that either Anderson Gabrych (writer) has actually read my reviews, or else had the same idea as me. The idea is that Batgirl is already on #65 and her character, while intriguing and genuine to the point of being loveable, is still somewhat underdeveloped. Most of the past story arches have focused on her development as a fighter. But most of her story and personality remain a mystery. (Which makes since as she is a bit of a mystery to herself.) Still, it is time we got some stuff resolved.

The artwork is great, and though it is more simplistic that some, the style is great to look at and the fight scenes are just beautiful. Thus far, Batgirl has been a great series, and it is one of the few DC books out right now that actually make since.
