Strange Girl 9
Now hold on a minute. What’s this “Forgotten by God, Powered by Darkness” all about? No the first part is true enough, but the whole “Powered by Darkness” bit seems a bit much. I know that Bethany has a few tricks stolen from a demon’s magic book, but that makes her sound like Aku from Samurai Jack. Well, the book has hinted that things might go deeper than just a few tricks, but maybe it will all make since in the end.
This book truly surprised me. With it’s serious subject matter mixed together with Eric Powell style humor, I didn’t know just how to take it. But now it has slid into a cushy nook of my subconscious that it blasted out for itself. This book is great. The art might rub you the wrong way at first, but it won’t take you long to begin to appreciate the genius of its gritty scribbles.
Issue 9 is only the end of the first chapter. This is fine by me because I was afraid it might be a rather short series. And what a way to end it. I can’t tell you too much about it, but I have to mention that a member of the group goes out in the most badass fashion I have seen in a long time. I think this is definitely a comic worth reading, and at nine issues, I think it might be the longest running Image series ever. So get it now before it makes it to a landmark number ten.
